Composition must match what you bottle. This SDS is written for a water-based copper-filled conductive coating (the usual class of hobby electroplating paint). PrintPlating is named as manufacturer/repacker. Before you ship, put the exact ingredient names and weight % from the SDS of the bulk paint you actually buy into Section 3. If your bulk paint is solvent-based (acetone, MEK, xylene, denatured alcohol as the main liquid), this SDS is wrong — use that supplier’s SDS and relabel.

Section 2 — Hazard identification

Classified as hazardous under OSHA HCS 2012 on the basis of copper metal content (aquatic toxicity). Not classified flammable if the carrier is water.

Exact percentages are a trade secret where allowed by 29 CFR 1910.1200(i), except as listed on the bulk supplier SDS. PrintPlating must keep that supplier SDS on file.

Section 4 — First-aid measures

Section 5 — Fire-fighting measures

Water-based mixture: not expected to sustain a fire as a liquid. Dried film can char. Use water, foam, CO2, or dry chemical for surrounding fire. Cool closed bottles. Combustion of binder may emit CO, CO2, nitrogen oxides, copper oxides. SCBA for interior firefighting.

Section 6 — Accidental release measures

Wear gloves and eye protection. Contain liquid. Wipe with inert absorbent. Do not flush to sewer. Place waste in a labeled container. Wash residue with a small amount of water into that same waste container, not into the sink.

Section 7 — Handling and storage

Adult workshop use. Stir before use. Brush in a ventilated area. Keep bottle closed. Store at 40–80 °F (5–27 °C); protect from freeze. Keep away from children and pets. Do not eat or drink while painting. Wash hands before touching food or eyes.

PPE: nitrile gloves, safety glasses, clothing you can stain. If spraying or sanding dried coats, use a respirator with P100 / organic vapor as appropriate. Local exhaust preferred for spray.

Section 10 — Stability and reactivity

Stable in a closed bottle. Avoid freeze/thaw. Incompatible with strong acids and oxidizers. Do not mix with other paints unless tested. Hazardous decomposition if burned: copper oxides, carbon oxides.

Section 11 — Toxicological information

Mixture not tested as a whole. Hazards are those of copper metal dispersion plus binder. Copper salts/dusts: GI distress if swallowed; respiratory irritation from dust/mist. Binder/additives may irritate eyes and skin. Not intended for ingestion or inhalation. No IARC classification of this mixture as a carcinogen; dried sanding dust should still be controlled.

Section 12 — Ecological information

Copper is very toxic to aquatic life. Do not discharge paint, brush rinse, or sanding slurry to storm drains or septic. Collect copper-bearing liquid as waste.

Section 13 — Disposal considerations

Liquid leftover and contaminated rags: hazardous or copper-bearing waste per local rules. Dried scrap on a print is an article on the part. Empty bottles: drain to waste container, not the sink.

Section 14 — Transport information

DOT / IATA / IMDG (water-based assumption)Often not regulated as a flammable liquid. Still an environmentally hazardous mixture if copper % triggers Class 9 in your package size — confirm with the bulk SDS and your carrier. Do not ship as ordinary paint if the supplier SDS says otherwise.
