SAFETY DATA SHEET

OSHA Hazard Communication Standard 29 CFR 1910.1200 · Article (solid copper metal)
Document PP-SDS-CU-ANODE-001 · Revision 1 · 25 August 2026

Section 1 — Identification

Product namePrintPlating Copper Anode Sheets
Chemical nameCopper metal
CAS No.7440-50-8
Recommended useSoluble / hanging anode in a copper-sulfate electroplating or electroforming bath.
Uses advised againstFood wrap, children’s toys, grinding without dust control.

Section 2 — Hazard identification

As shipped (solid sheets): not classified as a hazardous chemical under OSHA HCS — this is an article. Hazards appear if you grind, melt, or generate copper dust or fume. Copper dust/fume: respiratory irritation; OSHA PEL 1 mg/m3 dust, 0.1 mg/m3 fume. Edges may be sharp. Plating baths using these sheets follow the sulfate SDS, not this sheet.

Section 4 — First-aid measures

Section 5 — Fire-fighting measures

Solid copper does not burn under normal conditions. Fine dust can be a fire/explosion hazard in extreme industrial settings. Use extinguishing media suitable for the surrounding fire.

Section 6–8 — Spill, handling, PPE

Sheets: gloves to avoid cuts. No dust expected as packed. If you shear many sheets, sweep scrap metal for recycling. Do not grind without local exhaust and a P100 respirator. Wash hands after handling before eating.

Section 9 — Physical and chemical properties

Appearance: salmon/orange metal sheet. Melting point: 1083 °C. Density: 8.96 g/cm3. Insoluble in water. Soluble as ions in acid copper plating baths.

Section 10–13

Stable solid. Incompatible with strong acids, acetylene, and some oxidizers if finely divided. Recycle copper scrap. Do not discard large amounts of copper in household trash where local metal-waste rules apply.

Section 14 — Transport

Solid copper sheets are not typically regulated as dangerous goods. Not UN3077 (that number is the sulfate salt).

Section 15–16

TSCA listed (copper). SARA 313: copper may apply to manufacturing dust, not to this article as shipped. SDS provided so Amazon / Etsy customers have a manufacturer-named sheet.
